Wakestock 10 - Toronto Canada

The Oakley Pool was without a doubt the sickest wake pool ever built! Three pools and multiple rail sets covering over 400 feet of real estate. The new addition of the giant 80 foot funbox between the 2nd and 3rd pools was where

the wakeskaters were throwing down huge stunts, with a new generation of skaters leading the charge. In a breakout performance, Stuart Shinn (left picture) claimed the Oakley Pool Jam Best Trick with a massive 360 Shuv over the funbox. Out of the best trick contest: Ryan Doyle kickflipped the gap, Manzari tried to ollie the massive stair gap, Matt Hooker landed a 3 shuv, George Daniels got a 3 shuv over the pyramid during the oakley photo shoot (first try), Kyle Hyams amazing back bigspin.

Shinn also threw down one of the best semi-finals runs in the Billabong Wakeskate Finals, including a flawless Backside 3, Cab 3, and Backside 180 to qualify into the top eight. Joining Shinn were Wakestock rookies Nick Taylor and Ben Horan who will battle established stars Brian Grubb, Aaron Rathy, Drew McGuckin, and Chase Gregory. Taylor took down Wakestock 2005 vice-champion Reed Hansen enroute to the finals. Taylor nailed a Frontside 3, Cab 3, Backside 180 and a kickflip.

At the finals, Grubb was flawless. In fact he didn’t fall all weekend and stuck the first toeside wake to wake frontside bigspin ever stomped in competition. Grubb’s performance easily earned him his fourth Wakestock title and belt.

Obscura SST Wakeskate

Hey all,

Hope everyone had a great Easter!

The start of this holiday I received the Obscura SST wakeskate from Liquid Force. Even though this is my first couple of weeks back on the water after surgery in February I have still managed to shred this board.

I very much enjoy riding this board especially behind the boat, its perfect behind the boat as it is a Bi-level so the bottom deck is a continuous rocker giving it speed into the wake and a smooth ride.

The top deck of this wakeskate is concave shape like a skateboard so its good for the skate tricks. Because of it being split at the ends it gives a great pop. The SST is composite on the top deck and bottom deck so it will last longer on the rails than a wood wakeskate.

Are cheap complete skateboards any good?

The answer to this question really just depends on your preference. Some cheap complete skateboards are better suited for beginners at the sport while others are just great for even the most frequent skaters. There are two types of cheap complete skateboards: those that have just been discounted from normal price for one reason or another; and those that are simply made for the sole purpose of being affordable cheap complete skateboards.
Many times you can find cheap complete skateboards on sale made by major companies like Element, Almost, Plan B, Girl, Chocolate, Alien Workshop, Zero, and many others. These are normally just old models that used to be at regular price but haven't sold as many and therefore are discounted to a lower price to increase the retailers chances of getting it off their shelves to make room for shipments of new

products. These are probably the best cheap complete skateboards you can get because the only reason they have such low prices is because whoever's selling them is just desperate to get rid of them. There's nothing wrong with them, they're just older.
There are also cheap complete skateboards on sale that you can buy in stores around your town like Wal-Mart, Dick's Sporting Goods, MC Sports, and many more. These cheap complete skateboards are ideal for beginners because they usually come with trucks, wheels, and bearings that are too weak for the more advanced skaters. World Industries, Speed Demons, and Pig are a few of the top companies to produce some of the best cheap complete skateboards. Even though I think that these kinds are better for beginners, that doesn't mean they are exclusively for them. I have seen a few more advanced skaters around my area use these kinds of cheap complete skateboards and don't seem to mind the slower bearings or weaker trucks and wheels. It's just subjective, really. You may find that these are actually better for you than the discounted name brands I mentioned earlier.

The 10 Best Companies That Create Skateboard Deck Designs

Creativity in skateboarding is endless because there is no governing body that declares what a skateboard should be in regards to parts and measurements. When the sport first started out, individuals focused mainly on the structure of a skateboard. But with the sport constantly growing in popularity, the overall design and image of a skateboard is crucial. There’s no such thing as a simple board anymore as design has been taken to the next level.

Most skateboard decks are constructed with a seven-ply cross-laminated layup of Canadian maple. But depending on an individual’s preference, other materials such as bamboo, Kevlar, carbon fiber and aluminum are also used. Boom! Check it out. Faisal wanted a new deck. So he stopped in and talked with Matt last night and grabbed this Lib T Rice with some union Contact Pro Binders. Pretty sick huh? It has the C2 BTX and the union binders are wicked light. Add some Vans focus boa boots to this set up, and he is going to be ripping down the mountain. "Off The Lip" Jonathan Mono Skis In the store

Oh Yeah! Old school is in the house. Matty here is checking the tune on this Vintage "Off The Lip" Jonathan branded Mono Ski. It's got some sweet Tyrolia 480 binders on it painted a nice bright white. There was a time back in 85 when everyone in the shop had a monoski. I was only able to ski on one once at Whitetail. It is a completely different experience, and one I have only done once. It is more of a lifting phenomenon. Anyway, this thing is tuned and it is ready to hit the mountain. .
